The Early Intervention Centre was first explored as an idea, built on a strong belief that quality educational programmes have the power to make a difference in the lives of children with special needs and their families. It is important to raise expectations of what children can do, rather than being influenced by what they cannot do.
We imagined children of varying abilities in nurturing, colourful and vibrant classroom settings, supported by an array of learning scaffolds. They can experience the richness of children’s literacy supported with adapted text, learn numeracy concepts in different ways, participate in group activities that have been specially tailored to their learning needs, write their names for the very first time and be celebrated for it, express themselves through different mediums and be understood. In other words, have the same opportunities that their regular peers have.
We envisage a centre surrounded by a team of dedicated educators who truly believe there is always room to grow and that every moment contains a teaching opportunity that must be capitalised, thus adding skills to what the child already knows.
This is a place we wanted to create, back in 2009, a high-quality early years special education centre to provide children with a well supported, focused, and at the same time, a creative, fun and meaningful learning experience throughout their day with us.
From this simple imperative, The Early Intervention Centre was born to serve the individual needs of our special children and to deliver an exceptional experience to every family. From the very start, our centre was rooted in a culture driven to find better ways. To do better work. To hone our teaching practices.
Till date, the centre has been very honoured to be a part of many families. They have taught us many valuable things that we carry with us in our hearts and in our practice. While many children have moved on and transitioned to different settings, they have left us with so many lessons that truly encourages us to work harder to create better programmes and better services for our children.
